I Earned A Solid C+ Today.

Updated: Oct 5, 2022

“If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work… There are no limits, only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”  Bruce Lee

I am turning 40 this year and to celebrate I have decided to go test some personal limits. As a board member for a non-profit that hosts some of the hardest and coolest cycling races in the country, naturally, I decided to race instead of work at a few of them.

Today I had a scheduled training ride in the mountains above Lake Davis, CA.  The day started with rain and some “cool” air.    By the time I pulled myself together for the ride the wind was blowing 30 miles an hour, it was raining sideways, and it was 40 degrees.   My friends hot tub called me… loudly.

With half of our crew dropping out, I put my head down and pedaled. My ride was an exercise in pain.  My legs and arms were so cold by the time I was done that I was borderline hypothermic.  We rode hard.  I threw up.  My brain melted. There were numerous times I wanted to sit down.  I didn’t. Here is how I got to the C+

1 – Starting Late:   F 2 – Starting at All:  A 3 – Lousy Clothing Choices:  C 4 – Finishing:   A

I have found that I am happiest when I go find my limits.  Especially when it doesn’t go as planned.

What is your push for the coming quarter?
